"It was September 3, 2005. The composer was watching CNN for the fourth consecutive day, feeling absolutely helpless and horrified as he witnessed, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the damage and devastation to the land and the lives of so many humans and animals. Filled with these powerful emotions, he retired to his study and began recording, through musical notation, the images and emerging contemplations that absorbed him.

While writing, still steeped in feelings of helplessness, the composer noticed that a strong undercurrent of 'something else' was moving through him at the same time, a kind of prayer--a prayer for healing and compassion, a prayer for greater human dignity and unity amongst people, unity that would melt away damaging differences, a prayer that was also a wish for those who departed so tragically, that they might somehow now be safe and at peace, resting unharmed in a better place.

It was at that point in the process that the composer began including in his writing these other thoughts, feelings and hopes--for well being, healing and hope."
